Almaz Fikadu is the mother of one of our sponsored child. Almaz is born in the rural part of the country. She came to Addis Ababa with the idea of going to school. Almaz and her husband met when they were working in a small breakfast selling place. She was hired as a cook. Almaz has a heart problem and blood pressure. There was a time she was hospitalized. She couldn’t afford to buy medicines. CTE bought her the medicines at that time. Her husband left her when she needed him the most. They were separated because her husband misunderstood the situation she was facing. Her character changes rapidly because of the medication she was taking at that time. She said “I am always thankful thinking about that time and how CTE reached out to me in my difficult time. I got financially, food and counselling support. They made frequent home visitations. ”
CTE supported some beneficiary parents financially for income generating activities to start up small business. Almaz was one of them. She says, “The money or this special support was given out at a critical time. I used all of the money on my petty trade to sell coal (Fire charcoal), potatoes, carrot, jalapenos, collard greens and I bought two chickens to sell the eggs. I am able to buy medicines from income I generate.”
Almaz have two children. Her son who is in CTE is a brilliant outstanding student. This year he joined Jimma University (one of university in Ethiopia). Almaz expressed her happiness saying “I am extremely happy that he entered university. He got the result of his hard work. I always thank God and grateful to the people who gave my son this sponsorship opportunity. I want to thank his sponsors. My son entering university is the fruit of this opportunity.” Jimma is located on the south west part of Oromia, Ethiopia. It is a six hour drive from Addis Ababa.
