On February 9th, 2024 CTE organized a whole day recreation trip for a group of Children during the Summer school break. This group of children are from age 12-16, 55 number of Children went on the trip. Recreation Trips organized by CTE were grouped in to three according to their age. The first group went to Friendship Park during Winter School break. The second group (from age 12-16) went to Unity Park, one of the most modern and multi-faceted attractions in Ethiopia, located in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.
Unity Park of Ethiopia has three major tourist attractions; natural, cultural, historical and heritage attractions all in one place. The park is the compound of the Banquet Hall and Menilik II’s Palace Complex built by Emperor Menilik II, Throne Hall, features Black-maned Lion Zoo (features Ostriches and Endemic Black Mane Lion) and Unity Zoo which is home to 37 mammals and various birds that includes Aquarium and Aviary, Ethiopian Regional states pavilion, Traditional Garden and historical artifacts.
The trip started early in the morning after gathering and eating breakfast together at the office along with assigned CTE staffs and volunteers. We started our journey by bus at 2:00 in the morning LT, as the bus moves the children were excited. While the bus was on its way, they started singing songs and play with each other. The trip enabled the children to see and learn things in a practical manner, the type of learning and joy that can’t be achieved through books. It was marvellous to see the animals because what we usually see are pets. After visiting all of the features at the park, they had ice-cream and soft drinks by their choice and playing time at the compound. Because of the longer time we took at the park, the trip ended by late lunch. We got back safely. The children were directed and assisted by CTE staffs and volunteers during the whole day trip.
This trip was organized to let the children enjoy the new experience with nature, culture, history and environment. For these children, this is historical because most people in the country can’t afford this experience individually.
